The Programmable AutomationController(PAC) is an architecture that contains the essential requirements from manufacturing technology and automation.

Characteristics of the PAC architecture are the integration of all automation functions in one system with a uniform software as well as the consistent integration of standards originating from the IT world. These include Java, Javascript, Structured Query Language( SQL), Windows XP/ CE, the Internet standardsHypertextMarkup Language ( HTML), Extensible Markup Language(XML), Hypertext Transfer Protocol ( HTTP), Simple Mail Transfer Protocol ( SMTP) and the File Transfer Protocol( FTP), automation and communication standards such as Ethernet, TCP/ IP, the USB interface, the Actuator Sensor Interface( AS-i) and the CAN bus.

Such a platform supports logistics, drives, closed- loop control and process control. It forms the software platform for all automation functions and offers the possibility of integration into Enterprise Resource Planning( ERP) and other EDP systems.
