loop
- In the access network, the loop is the connection between the end user and the exchange.
- The rerouting of the data path in ring networks, e.g. in the event of a cable defect. In an active ring, there are always two loops, normally positioned within the director. However, if the director performs a ring reconfiguration to bypass a faulty area, then TAP(Terminal Access Point) loops are positioned in each of the two closest to the faulty area. Engineering loops are required to extend or modify a ring. These are temporarily positioned in selected TAPs by the system manager via system parameters in order to "loop out" a specific TAP or a sub-area of the ring.
