industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 stands for the advanced development of industry and automation since the beginning of industrialization. Industry 4.0 embodies a technological revolution and the future of industry, the progressive automation, digitization, networking and the entry of modern electronics and information technology, in the form of robotics.

In Industry 4.0, the value-added process is controlled and readjusted at every stage of production. The resulting flood of data is processed and used for product improvement, quality assurance and increased efficiency. The basis for Industrie 4.0 is the Industrial Internet of Things( IIoT), which connects many production facilities. Architecture models include the Industrie 4.0 reference architecture model (RAMI 4.0), which was developed primarily by the ZVEI, and the American Industrial Internet Consortium( IIC).

A key aspect of Industrie 4.0 is the interconnection of mechanical components and modern information technology via the Internet. Infrastructures can be managed and controlled via such a network, which forms a cyber-physical system( CBS). The exchange of information between the networked production units can take place in real time, either by wire or by radio.

As for the security of the production facilities and manufacturing equipment, they are poorly protected against hacker attacks and malware, which allows attackers to carry out attacks through the vulnerabilities. As in all other information technology systems, security systems such as firewalls or intrusion prevention systems( IPS) must be installed to protect the manufacturing system.
