industrial Internet consortium (IIC)

The Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) is an American nonprofit organization that represents the interests for the Industrial Internet of Things( IIoT). It was founded in 2014 with the aim of promoting IIoT technology in companies.

The IIC activities should be seen in the context of the ongoing development of Industrie 4.0 and the ZVEI activities for the Reference Architecture Model Industrie 4.0 (RAMI 4.0). The IIC concept has a cross- domain approach for the manufacturing industry, but also includes the areas of energy generation, health and transport. The IIC's goals include fostering innovation and innovative deployment opportunities, as well as developing test environments. The IIC is also developing a reference architecture and framework for the necessary interoperability. Existing standards from the Internet and industrial institutions are included in this process.

The Industrial Internet Consortium's many members include well-known telecommunications and network technology companies, chip manufacturers, research institutions, universities and government agencies.
