The word cyber is derived from the English cybernetics, the study of control processes. On the Internet, the word cyber is often used as a prefix to describe an artificial reality.

One speaks of cyberspace, cyber store, cybercrime, cyber security, cyber money or cyber war. All of these terms are associated with the Internet. Cyberspace, for example, stands for a space of order that can be accessed through the navigation possibilities of the Web. The term cyberspace originally comes from the novel Newromancer by American science fiction author William Gibson. The term cyber security stands for Internet security or cybercrime for Internet crime.
