EPCglobal network

The EPCglobal Network is a network of EPCglobal through which trading partners can exchange product data, identify objects and access the EPC code. This structured code is contained in every RFID tag.

The EPCglobal Network can be used to monitor and control the further processing of products and components in production, merchandise management and logistics. Access to the individual products, which currently still takes place via special communication protocols, will later be standardized via the Internet of Things( IoT) using the IPv6 protocol.

The EPCglobal Network supports the services developed by EPCglobal. For example, the Object Naming Service( ONS), EPC Discovery Service (EPCDS), EPC Information Services( EPCIS) and the EPC Security Service (EPCSS) with which EPC-coded objects can be specified and found in the production and trade chain.

Later, when communication takes place via IPv6, the EPC code of all smart objects is converted into the 128-bitIPv6 address. This is especially true for radio-based communication, which uses battery-free radio technology and lowest power consumption according to the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, known as ZigBee.
