consumer electronics for automotive (CE4A)

Consumer Electronics for Automotive (CE4A) is a working group of automotive manufacturers founded in 2006 to promote the standardization of interfaces for mobile devices. CE4A, which operates under the umbrella organization of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), includes the German car manufacturers Audi, BMW, Daimler and Volkswagen as founding members.

CE4A's initial activities were directed at standardizing interfaces between mobile devices and electronic control units( ECU) in motor vehicles. CE4A's goals are to select interfaces and not to develop its own. One deliberately relies on such standards that are already established in consumer electronics. In addition, CE4A is represented in various standardization committees such as those for Bluetooth and the USB interface.

Topics actively addressed in expert groups (EG) include hands-free and Bluetooth in-car telephony, music players and video players, personalinformation management( PIM), navigation, connectors and the reference platform.
