engine control unit (ECU)

In order to reduce fuel consumption and environmentally harmful exhaust gases, the fuel injection in modern motor vehicles is controlled electronically.

With the aid of the engine control unit (ECU) or engine control module ( ECM), electronic fuel injection controls the optimum supply of petrol to the engine and ensures complete combustion of the fuel. The engine control unit is an intelligent computer unit. It receives information about the gasoline-air mixture and engine-specific data such as engine speed, ignition, oil pressure, etc. via various sensors, calculates the optimum injection from this and controls the ignition, fuel supply, idle speed, etc. for this purpose.
