client server protocol
Client-server protocols use the TCP protocol as transport protocols and support the client in using the services offered by the server.
A connection is established via the connection-oriented TCP protocol and maintained until the application program is terminated. Client-server protocols regulate the request of network services, the access to the file server and its response behavior. In this area, there are vendor-specific and vendor-neutral solutions that have a high level of market acceptance. Among the better known are the Network File System( NFS) from SUN, the Remote File System( RFS) from the TCP/ IP world, the AppleTalk Filing Protocol( AFP) and the Server Message Block( SMB) for OS/2 from IBM.
