TransferJet

TransferJet is a short-range radio technology characterized by highest data rates and simplicity. TransferJet achieves data rates of 560 Mbit/s. With TransferJet, data is transferred via radio when the devices between which the data transfer is to take place are held very close together. The distance should not be more than 3 cm.

The communication, which can be bidirectional, can be used to exchange larger files of photos, videos or music between mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets with notebooks, display units and other peripheral devices such as projectors or printers. Such applications can also be realized with near- field communication or Bluetooth, but with much lower data transfer rates.

TransferJet, which was developed by Sony, operates at 4.48 GHz with a bandwidth of 560 MHz. The transmission power is extremely low and meets the requirements for low-intensity radiation. Radio transmission uses spread-band technology with two- phase shift keying. The connection between the devices is implemented as a point-to-point link.

Until TransferJet technology is implemented in mobile and peripheral devices, microSD cards and USB adapters can be used. The protocol handling reduces the data rate from 560 Mbps to an effective data throughput of 375 Mbps.

As far as data security is concerned, this is sufficiently ensured by the small distance between the devices and the low transmission power. The dongles for TransferJet support all smartphone operating systems.
