Bit per second and its prefixes

Megabits per second is `10^6` bit/s or `10^3` kbit/s, i.e. 1,000,000 bit/s. The next higher data rates are specified in gigabits per second (Gbit/s) and terabits per second (Tbit/s).

In Germany, the notation Mbit/s is used, whereas in Anglo-Saxon countries the Mbps is used.
