Traffic flow management of networks uses various tools for flow control and congestion control, deep packet inspection( DPI) and application-based routing. The goal of traffic flow management is to optimize traffic flow without congestion and delays, to ensure optimal security and the best possible data throughput. Traffic management is part of network management and is used to identify data-intensive applications that place a heavy load on the network and have a negative impact on transmission parameters.

InATM networks, traffic flow control refers to various actions that serve to avoid congestion and congestion in the network. Congestion control from the ATM layer includes all precautions to minimize congestion, its duration, distribution or intensity.
