time triggered Ethernet

Inautomotive technology, the electronics must operate with the lowest possible latency times. This involves microseconds in which an event can be detected by the sensors and reported to the controller via the corresponding bus system, which then triggers an action.

Time Triggered Ethernet is such a time-triggered concept for automotive Ethernet, which has lowest latency times. In contrast to traditional Ethernet, where an Ethernet frame is held back until the existing data packet is transmitted, Interspersing Express Traffic( IET) standardized under IEEE 802.3br works with priorities. Here, normal Ethernet frames are interrupted during their transmission by the express frames that are given priority. These are transmitted first. Only after the transmission of the express frames is the transmission of the normal Ethernet frames continued.

With Time Triggered Ethernet, the latency times are in the single- digit microsecond range.
