powerline network

Powerline technology can be used both on medium- voltage lines (6.6 kV to 20 kV) and on low-voltage lines. The low-voltage range distinguishes between outdoor (400 V) and indoor systems (230 V).

Telecommunications services and the Internet are fed into the medium-voltage or low-voltage network via a powerline bridge. Powerline bridges are also located between the medium-voltage lines and the low-voltage lines to provide matching. Powerline networks, known as PowerNET, have a limited distance range, which is about 300 meters. This can be increased to distances of up to 500 meters using Power Network Repeaters (PNR).

Powerline architecture

In powerline networks, known as PowerNET, telecommunication services are fed into the low-voltage network in the area of a transformer station via the network termination (PLT), also known as the outdoor access point ( AOP), and the powerline network unit (PNU) or PLC master. The PLC master provides the telecommunication services to thehouses through the low voltage network. Each house has a PLC house coupler, through which the power supply with modulated communication data is distributed in the house.

PLC modems are attached to the power outlets, which filter out the communication current from the mains voltage, which is then demodulated in a PLC modem.
