mobile office workstations using GSM links (Mowgli)
Mowgli is the project name for Mobile Office Workstations Using GSM Links. It is a project initiated by the University of Helsinki for the efficient operation of a combined communications architecture consisting of fixed networks and wireless telephone networks.
The goal is to replace client- server architectures with client-mediator architectures.
Mowgli is used to connect mobile data stations to the Internet using digital cellular networks. The Mowgli architecture supports Mowgli Data Channel Services (MDCS), a special transport service that replaces the TCP/ IP protocol for wireless connections. MDCS supports up to 256 data channels simultaneously. In addition, the Mowgli protocol features low packet overhead.
