EWSD(Electronic Dialing SystemDigital) was the Siemens product name for a digital switching center for ISDN voice switching over 64 kbit/s channels. EWSD was developed in the 1980s and had increased tenfold in its switching capacity for voice and data.
EWSD systems were used in all hierarchical levels of switching technology; from the local exchange, through the node exchange, the main exchange and the long-distance exchange, to the highest hierarchical level of the central exchange.
Thanks to the continuous development of the EWSD system, it was suitable for the most modern communication solutions.
These included migration to the Internet, for which EWSD provided the point of presence( PoP), support for online services such as VoIP, integration of ADSL and multi- service platforms based on ATM.
