LCR measuring instrument

An LCR meter is an electronic measuring device for measuringinductance (L), capacitance (C) and resistance (R) of electronic components and circuits. The mentioned characteristic values are not measured directly, but determined via the current, voltage and phase angle. The phase angle between current and voltage is used to determine whether an inductance or capacitance is involved, and the phase angle is used to determine the values of reactance to active resistance.

The LCR values can be represented in various forms: As impedance (Z), resistance and imaginary resistance (X), as series connection or parallel connection. Certain forms of representation are based on the most commonly used basic circuits: the series connection of inductance (L) and resistance (R) and the parallel connection of capacitance (C) and resistance (R). LCR meters can be adjusted in their measuring ranges and measuring frequencies. The latter span several decades between a few kilohertz( kHz) and a few hundred megahertz( MHz).

For use in automated measuring stations and measuring systems, LCR meters are equipped with appropriate interfaces such as the USB interface and with bus systems for connection to local area networks( LAN) or handlers.
