IrDA communications (IrCOMM)
IrCOMM stands for communication in the application layer of the IrDA layer model. It supports applications where a parallel and serial interface is emulated, allowing existing applications to be used over IrDA.
This means that the TCP/ IP protocol can also be operated via IrDA.
IrCOMM knows four different operating modes: The three- wire transmission with one data channel. Flow control is performed by the IrDA Link Access Protocol( IrLAP), which is located in the link layer. The three-wire variant with a control channel and its own flow control via TinyTP. The nine-wire variant for emulation of the serial interface. The Centronics variant for emulation of the Centronics interface.
