The IP500 Alliance, headquartered in Berlin, is an international organization of manufacturers of building automation products and systems. It establishes a wireless standard for commercially used buildings and smart homes that are connected to the Internet of Things (IoT).
The IP500 Alliance relies on established standards that are also used in building automation. These include various protocols such as the IPv6 protocol and the IPsec protocol, but also procedures such as the low-bit-rate Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN) operating in accordance with IEEE 802.15.4 or the Low Power WPAN 6LoWPAN.
The member companies of the IP500 Alliance include companies and OEM manufacturers of network and wireless technology, fieldbuses and building technology, such as Honeywell, Bosch, Siemens, Omron, Toyota and also service providers for alarm systems, fire protection, building security and access control.
