IEEE 10GBase-EW
The Ethernet nomenclature for 10GbE interfaces shows that 10GBase-EW is an FOC interface for single- mode fibers operating at a wavelength of 1,550 nm (E) and is used in wide area networks (W).
Signals transmitted over 10GBase-EW are encoded using 64B66B coding, and the 10GbE data stream is packaged on the Physical Coding Sublayer ( PCS) in a Synchronous Optical Networks( SONET) and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy( SDH) frame format. The transmission rate is 9.584640 Gbit/s, which is the same as the data rate of the OC-192 optical carrier. Transmission takes place in the third optical window at 1,550 nm and can bridge distances of up to 40 km.
