DECT forum

The DECT Forum is an international organization of manufacturers, operators and companies for the promotion of DECT technology with representatives in the most important geographical regions of the world. The Forum provides a platform for the exchange of experience between users, operators, and regulatory and standardization bodies with the aim of advancing the DECT standard worldwide and increasing acceptance of DECT.

The objectives of the DECT Forum include promoting the benefits of DECT in user awareness, managing technical standards in cooperation with standardization bodies, and further developing DECT in future mobile communications systems.

In January 2006, the DECT Forum announced a technology shift towards IP-based value-added services. This development is being supported by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute( ETSI). DECT Next Generation supports Internet telephony and offers new features for voice, audio, telephony, address book management, security, ease of use and quality.

The DECT Forum has also promoted DECT technology for other in-house services. The DECT extension designed for this purpose is called Cordless Advanced Technology - Internet and Quality( CAT-iq) and can be used for higher-quality voice, for Internet radio, Internet telephony and for transmitting switching commands or sensor values. In addition, the specifications for DECT ULE (Ultra Low Energy) for use in smart homes have been developed in collaboration with ETSI.
