D bus

D-Bus is a message bus system with which Linux and Unix programs can communicate with each other. It is a generic method for Interprocess Communication( IPC), with which desktop programs communicate with each other and with the operating system. In addition to interprocess communication, the D-Bus coordinates process life cycles.

Daemon processes also provide communication between multiple applications and can pass messages to other applications. For example, the system daemon alerts users to newly added hardware or additionally connected peripherals, while the login daemon supports interprocess communication between user applications.

The D-Bus software is used in various Linux applications, such as Gnome and the K Desktop Environment( KDE), and is intended to replace the Desktop Communication Protocol( DCOP).
