ASTRA broadband interactive system (ABIS)

ASTRA Broadband Interactive System (ABIS) is an interactive broadband service related to Astra satellites, the Broadband Interactive System( BBI).

ABIS represents a two-way communication in which the subscriber receives broadband services from Astra satellites via the downlink and can interact himself via the return channel. Transmission takes place in the Ka-band between 29.5 GHz and 30.0 GHz. The data rates for the downlink are 38 Mbit/s, and those for the uplink with the return channel are 2 Mbit/s.

The ABIS service offering is multimedia and can be accessed from the ABIS satellite platform. Access to this service distribution platform, which performs the functions of a hub and a gateway, is from the subscriber via the IP protocol. The subscriber can select dedicated services from his Satellite Interactive Terminal( SIT) and use them at high data rates. The range of services includes all Internet services, file transfer or distribution of multimedia content, which can be transmitted to specific subscriber groups via broadcast or multicast.
