While speech recognition is concerned with the recognition of the spoken word on the basis of word lists, electronic speech analysis examines the structure of human speech.
Speech analysis is concerned with the content and formal characteristics of language, i.e. its semantics and syntax. Semantics stands for word meaning and the sense of the statement, and syntax for grammar and text structure. In terms of speech analysis, this includes all factors of sentence structure with verbs, adjectives and nouns, sentence structure and phonetics.
Speech recognition, speech analysis and speech comprehension together form speech technology.
