transputer

Transputers are microprocessors in RISC architecture, Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC), with an integrated fast RAM memory chip.

A transputer chip consists of several units, such as a processor, an arithmetic CPU, a RAM, the memory interface and several serial interfaces with high transmission rates. Several transputers can be connected to each other and to other networks via the serial interfaces. Via these connections transputers can be chained to arbitrary structures and connected to other computers.

The transputer concept has the advantage that several microprocessors can process an application in parallel due to the fast data transfer between the individual microprocessors. The concept is comparable to a multiprocessor system.
