sign on/off

In network technology, sign on/off refers to the process of logging a user on and off the network, a website, or an online service. During sign-on, when the user logs in, the user usually has to enter his or her user name or user ID and password.

After the sign-on, the user has access to services, resources, applications, computers or databases until he or she logs off. With the sign-off, the user or visitor logs off from the network or the requested service. If the sign-on is a one-time event, then it is a single sign-on( SSO).

However, the term Sign On/Off is also used in broadcast technology, namely to control the transmission power of radio and television stations. The purpose is to avoid interference and other disruptions. To avoid such interference, the Federal Communications Commission( FCC) gives certain AM and TV stations a schedule showing the times each day when they may transmit at higher and lower power levels.
