service on demand (SoD)

Service-on-demand (SoD) are service on-demand services. These interactive multimedia on-demand services include teleshopping, telebanking, info services, etc. Typical service providers for SoD services are mail order companies, banks, tour operators, cultural institutions and publishers.

It is an interactive service with individually retrievable product information. This information, stored in a kind of electronic catalog, can consist of moving images or photos, graphics, audio files, text files and other data files. Service-on-demand offers a corresponding interaction and thus enables bookings, orders and requests. Individual broadband forward channels and narrowband reverse channels are available to the end user for the duration of service use.
