graphics

Graphics is the generic term for graphical representations. These can be pictures, technical drawings, artistic representations or diagrams. A graphic is a two- or three-dimensional representation.

In the case of computer graphics, a distinction is made in terms of structure between pixel graphics, vector graphics and raster graphics. They all have a high information content, which depends on the resolution and color depth. Two- and three-dimensional computer graphics offer the possibility to view objects from all perspectives.

Since the information content of uncompressed graphics can be tens and hundreds of megabytes, computer graphics are compressed for transmission and processing. The compression method used depends on the type of graphic. Vector graphics, for example, are compressed using different algorithms than photos or pixel-oriented graphics.
