Security Administrator Tool for Analyzing Networks (SATAN) is a program that detects security vulnerabilities in networks, registers them and suggests solutions.

Satan belongs to the group of security scanners that detect vulnerabilities in the configurations ofpersonalcomputers and identify vulnerabilities in networked systems and subject them to testing. The program, which is deployed centrally and has good reporting capabilities, allows the administrator of the IT security vulnerabilities to detect and fix them. The Satan program can be considered as a precursor of Intrusion Detection System( IDS).
