The term fixing is used in connection withcompact discs( CD) and DVDs, but also with printers.

1. With compact discs, fixing writes the lead-out to the end of the track. It is also determined whether the compact disc may contain further sessions. After the lead-out, the new lead-in for the next session is already written. No further data can be stored on a fixed compact disc. A compact disc can only be read in a CD drive after it has been fixed.
2. With laser printers, fixing involves burning the toner onto the paper. Since the toner is loosely applied to the medium after the printing process, it is firmly bonded to the paper during fusing. This fusing technique exists in laser printers.
