pop up menu
Pop-up means something like sudden appearance. Accordingly, pop-up menus are operating aids of graphical user interfaces that appear suddenly. They are small windows in JavaScript that appear when the computer mousecursor is moved over a certain word, hyperlink or graphical area.
Their appearance occurs with a certain time delay. That is why they are also called mouse-overs.
Pop-up menus contain additional information of documents and files, operating aids and extended functionalities for handling programs. The operator recognizes in the pop-up menu whether this function field fulfills its set task. When the pop-up window is opened, it covers the underlying part of the web page.
The technique of pop-up windows is used for functional support of the operator, but very often it is also used in online advertising as pop-up banners. In online advertising, pop-up windows often appear periodically without a functional trigger by the operator. They can be displayed when a web page is opened, but also when it is closed. Certain browsers allow blocking pop-up advertisements.
