task

Tasks are tasks that can be performed by the computer and are processed independently of each other. They can be application programs or print jobs. Whether a task, job or operation, if it can be performed by the computer, it is called a task.

A task consists of a sequence of instructions to the operating system or of several subtasks to be processed one after the other. The task contains information about the size of the task and which operating resources are used. The subtasks consist again of individual instructions with which the subtasks are processed.

Operating systems that process several tasks in parallel are referred to as multitasking. Switching between several tasks is called task switching.
