outage management system (smart grid) (OMS)

An Outage Management System(OMS) is a computer system that detects outages and interruptions in the power supply in smart grids and ensures that the power supply is restored.

OMS systems record the fuses and shutdown circuits where the power interruption occurred, using geographic data from a Geographics Information System( GIS). They ensure that power is restored and take into account emergency situations and the duration of the interruption.

OMS systems provide their information on the number of affected consumers to the Distribution Management System( DMS) and calculate the time needed for restoration. Consumers are also informed about the power interruption and the probable interruption duration via the Customer Information System( CIS).
