driver monitoring system (automotive) (DMS)

A Driver MonitoringSystem(DMS) is a system used in automotive engineering to continuously monitor the driver's attention. Such a system functionally belongs to Advanced Driver Assistance Systems( ADAS).

Driver monitoring systems are camera-based and monitor and alert the driver when he or she becomes tired or distracted. Key functions of a driver monitoring system include sleep alert systems that monitor the driver's behavior while driving and monitor their facial expressions, number of blinks, eye focus on the road, and other physical characteristics, triggering an alert if there is a deviation from the standard behavior.

A DMS system can also identify the driver and make driver-specific adjustments.
