newsreader

Newsreaders are software programs with which newsgroups can be subscribed to and their news can be evaluated offline. They are functionally comparable to feedreaders. Newsreaders allow interested parties to participate in Usenet discussion forums on the Internet.

Newsreader programs retrieve the news from the discussion forums, structure and sort the feeds according to categories, headings and publication date, and display the teaser and the entire content.

The user can view the news offline, evaluate it and comment on it. Newsreaders support various reading functions, editing functions and saving functions. For example, only a teaser or the complete text of a news item can be displayed. The editing functions of newsreaders include filter functions for specific terms and full-text search. As with feed readers, there are various browsers with integrated news readers.

Newsreaders work with the Network News Transfer Protocol( NNTP) and can choose between discussion forums, select and reply to news articles.
