In the case of many portals with high topicality, such as news portals, weblogs or online editorial offices, interested parties can be automatically informed about text-based articles and news without having to call up the corresponding portal. The technology used for this is called feeds, which can be translated as feeding.

Feeds or newsfeeds are links or channels that can be subscribed to and read with a feed reader. They are platform independent and can be kept on personalcomputers and smartphones where they can be displayed and read.

There are various feed formats. Among the better known are Really Simple Syndication( RSS) and the Atom feed. There is also the Resource Description Framework( RDF) and the Extensible Markup Language(XML). Subscribing to and reading feeds is also supported directly by some web browsers.
