Mouse over are tooltips, i.e. operating aids or tool aids. They are pop-ups of the graphical user interface( GUI) of operating systems and application programs that open when the user leaves the mouse cursor on a function element for a short time.
The pop-up opens with a slight time delay and contains a short description text in a rectangular box with a yellow background. The pop-up disappears as soon as the mouse cursor is moved further or automatically after a certain time.
The mouse-over technique is used in application programs and also in Windowstoolbars and taskbars.
