matrix switch
A matrix switch can be considered as an electronic patch panel and switching system that can be used to perform additional monitor functions.
Characteristic of a matrix is that the activities are coordinated through one or more central control units without the participation of the network, that the control of large interconnected networks with multiple matrix functions is performed by a central unit, and that the execution of any equivalent switching is performed through digital and analoginterfaces.
Analog test equipment and protocol testers can be connected through multiple monitor ports on the digital and analog sides. Matrix switches can be used, among other things, as a monitor for analog and digital interfaces, for A/B switching, for group switching, as an electronic patch panel and for crossover and channel access switching.
