advanced television systems committee (mobile TV) (ATSC-M/H)
There are various technical approaches for mobile TV: DMB, DVB-H, DVB-H2 and DVB-SH are among them, but also Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service( MBMS), T-DMB, MediaFLO, China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting( CMMB), DMB-T/H and Integrated Service Digital Broadcasting, Terrestrial( ISDB-T). ATSC-M/H from the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) is another process that is seeking to establish itself in the United States.
The ATSC-M/H method for mobile TV is compatible with the ATSC standards for terrestrial digital television and is also transmitted in the same frequency ranges as the latter. An important distinguishing feature from the various other mobile TV processes is the return channel provided via which interactive services and mobile video-on-demand( VoD) can be supported or via which orders can be placed in teleshopping. In addition to video and audio data, navigation data or other messages can also be transmitted in the transmission channels.
With the envisioned transmission of HDTV, the ATSC-M/H trumps all other methods for mobile TV. The meaning of this technical approach will remain obscure for some time.
