IP multi-service access node (NGN) (IP-MSAN)

IP Multi-Service Access Nodes (IP- MSAN) are components in the access network that support the IP protocol and Ethernet. An IP-MSAN is a node that provides IP services such as video multicasting for Internet television( IPTV) or VoIP for residential voice communications, via the Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer( DSLAM).

In addition, the IP-MSAN can be used to provide traditional telephone services via POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) or ISDN as a basic or primary multiplexed line( PRI). As far as the business customer offering is concerned, more advanced features relevant to the business sector can be realized via an IP-MSAN.

On the one hand, an IP-MSAN uses scalable Ethernet/IP technology to provide IP services, but on the other hand it can also implement classic telephony using TDM technology. IP-MSANs act as end points in the company during the transition to the all- IP network, handling the required communication with the required protocol.
