IEEE 802.1AB

The 802.1AB working group is concerned with "Station and MAC Discovery". The procedures developed are used to determine network topologies and are the prerequisite for the management of local area networks( LAN).

The 802.1AB standard describes a Management Information Base( MIB), the Link Layer Discovery Protocol( LLDP) for data exchange and the structure of the MIB. The LLDP MIB stores the data about the local agent and the detected neighbor agents and enables the configuration of the LLDP protocol.
