IEEE 10GBase-LW

10GbE interfaces are subject to the Ethernet nomenclature. According to this, 10GBase-LW is an optical fiber interface for single mode fibers that operates in the second optical window at 1,310 nm.

Signals transmitted over 10GBase-LW are encoded using 64B66B coding, and on the Physical Coding Sublayer( PCS), the 10GbE frames are packaged into Sonet and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy( SDH) frame format. The transmission rate is 9.584640 Gbps, which is equivalent to that of the Optical Carrier, OC-192 or the Synchronous Transport Module, STM-64, and the bridgeable distance can be up to 10 km.

The 10GBase-LW interface was specified by IEEE 802.3ae and can also be used in data centers and in backbones.
