Gigabit per second, Gbit/s or Gbps, is a dimension for transmission speed. It is a data rate of `10^3` Mbit/s, `10^6` kbit/s or `10^9` bit/s, i.e. 1,000,000,000 bit/s. The next higher data rates are given in terabits per second (Tbit/s), the lower ones in megabits per second (Mbit/s).
The abbreviation Gbit/s is mainly used in Europe, the abbreviation Gbps in Anglo-Saxon countries.
