transmission speed

The transmission speed is the measure of the speed at which data can be transmitted in the form of bits per unit of time over a transmission medium. In German-language literature, the transmission rate is specified in bits per second (bit/s), in English with bits per second( bps).

The transmission speed or data rate is given the prefixes kilo (k), mega (M), giga (G) or tera (T). Except for bit-serial binary transmission, it is different from the step rate.

Determination of the transmission speed for parallel and serial transmission

Determination of the transmission speed for parallel and serial transmission

With character-serial bit- parallel transmission, the transmission rate is greater than the step rate, since several bits are transmitted with each step.

According to DIN 44302, the transmission rate is the product of the step rate and the number of bits transmitted per step.
