FastTCP

FastTCP is a development by Akamai and relies on a consistent increase in the data transfer ratecompared to the classic TCP protocol. In the classic Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), the data rate is controlled by the overload control and reduced in case of overload and packet loss.

The FastTCP control method is based on a window technique with variable window size, a sliding window. The average transmission rate depends on the loss probability.

As end- user behavior has increasingly shifted to streaming media and streaming video in recent years, transmission quality can degrade with a high number of users due to packet loss and increasing latency. By using the connectionless UDP protocol, compensation is possible, especially since in streaming packet losses only slightly affect the information. Another technique is FastTCP, which uses an algorithm based on queuing delay rather than packet loss and maintains an optimal packet rate without exceeding the available bandwidth.
