voice over ATM (VoATM)
Voice over ATM (VoATM) offers communications-intensive enterprises the ability to transmit voice over campus networks, wide area networks and access networks.
The VoATM process uses a special AAL5 encapsulation to multiplex the voice. This method has the advantage that sufficient bandwidth is available, jitter is relatively low, and quality of service( QoS) can be defined.
With VToA, the ATM Forum has adopted several standards for voice and telecommunications over ATM.
VoATM supports any-to-any network topologies with signaling. The constant bit rate ( CBR) service defined in the ATM Adaption Layer( AAL) is suitable for transmission of voice and video.
