vicinity coupling device (VCD)

A Vicinity Coupling Device (VCD) is a card reader for Vicinity Integrated Circuit Cards ( VICC). The coupling between the VCD reader and the VICC cards is inductive and can bridge distances of up to one meter. Power is transferred from the VCD unit to the VICC card via the non-contact interface, as it is passive and has no battery. The data of the VICC card is queried by the VCD read/write unit, the communication is bidirectional.
