In addition to the continentally active consortia such as HomePlug, Consumer Electronic Powerline Communication Alliance( CEPCA) and the Open PLC European Research Alliance( OPERA), which are driving forward the standardization of powerline, there is also the globally active Universal Powerline Association( UPA), in whose specifications the standards of the continentally active consortia may also be incorporated.

Other UPA activities focus on the Digital Home Standard( DHS), which is the only PLC-based standard to support triple play in the home. Product compatibility is certified by the "UPA Plug Tested" label.
