open PLC European research alliance (powerline) (OPERA)

There are several associations that take care of the standardization of powerline. In Japan, it is the CEPCA, along with the American-dominated HomePlug and the globally active Universal Powerline Association( UPA). In Europe, OPERA (Open PLC European Research Alliance) has dedicated itself to the powerline issue and adopted the powerline specifications in 2006.

Like the other two consortia, Opera is working on the standardization of Broadband Powerline( BPL) with a data rate of 200 Mbps.

The Opera consortium includes well-known European companies. Broadband Powerline developed by Opera is an open standard that has been standardized by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute( ETSI).
