Social computing is an interactive online exchange in which individual users join together with other users to form communication partners or social groups and exchange information via corresponding online services.

Social computing is the symbiosis of social behavior and computer technology. In social computing, visitors with the same interests meet in virtual rooms. Chats are chat rooms, blogs, social games or instant messaging are social networks. In social computing, online participants exchange information and collective data, fix points of view and define common goals.

Social computing can be used in companies to motivate employees, but it can also be used in private life, for example for partnerships or players in computer games. Social networks can be used to strengthen relationships, but they can also be dissolved again quickly.
